The biggest concern is for the people you care about the most. Home security begins with an attitude of safety. Take precautions to ensure there are no poisonous substances in your home that can be opened by your children.

All medications should have childproof caps

Lock all medicines and toxic products in a cabinet where your children (and pets) can’t reach them

Leave poisonous substances in their original containers with all the appropriate warnings

Turn the lights on if you need to give medicine to your child at night

Absolutely do not tell your child that medication tastes like candy

Get rid of medications that are past the expiry date

Keep the area well-ventilated if you open up products that have fumes

Wear gloves, goggles and other protective clothing when you are using toxic products

One of the greatest advantages of the video surveillance cameras is that you can watch over your home and property even if you are on the other side of the world. All you need to do is log into a secure website and you can see the real-time feed from your cameras. Your security monitoring company keeps a watch through the eyes of your surveillance cameras around the clock. Your home is covered while you are away, so take of yourself wherever you are staying, especially if you check into a hotel.

Never leave your luggage alone in a public area

Your hotel room door should have a peephole and a deadbolt lock

The window should all lock from the inside

Don’t announce your room number publicly

Use the hotel safe to store highly valuable items

Don’t allow anyone in your room you didn’t expect

Keep tabs on your room key – put it in a safe place

Stay away from unsafe areas in your city of destination

Many of us make the effort to have home security systems with video surveillance cameras installed because we do a lot of traveling for business. Guarding our personal safety and our valuables should extend to us no matter where in the world we are. Here are a few tips to consider if you do a lot of travel by air:

Never let your bags and your laptop computer out of your sight

If you need to walk away from your bags, only trust a uniformed security guard to watch them

Be aware of people bumping into you “accidently” – this is a common trick used by “pick-pockets”

Keep your wallet or purse close to your body and well concealed

Make a list of valuable items inside your checked bags, take highly valuables items with you onboard the plane

If you are taking expensive electronics or jewelry on your trip, keep it hidden while you are traveling

False burglar alarms are annoying to say the least. They take up a lot of your precious time and energy. They can end up costing you a good deal of money depending on the city where you live. They are especially costly for your local community because the police and/or fire department are typically required to investigate all alarms just in case they are the real thing. Most of the time they are caused by 4 things:

An error made by the user

Faulty or failed equipment

Property vandalism

Random acts of nature

Make sure everyone in the family knows how to correctly operate your security system. You can keep a simple instruction sheet near your control panel as a reminder. Have your equipment checked out at least once a month. If you notice something is amiss call our security company right away and let them know. Also let them know if you make any changes in your setup, passwords or contact information. Lock everything up before you leave home.

We can’t always have the attention on the people we care about the most as much as we would like. Security camera systems help us keep a watch over our families when we can’t be home with them or when we have numerous tasks to accomplish at home. Video surveillance cameras let you watch your home in real-time from anywhere in the world by logging into a secure website.

Know who is at the door before you open it

Visual confirmation that your children are home from school safely

Monitor the children while you get your work done in another part of the house

In your community you may know the Neighborhood watch program by other names – Building Watch, Community Watch or Crime Watch. By any name it is highly recommended by home security monitoring companies to participate in the program to help lower the potential for you or anyone on your street becoming victims of burglary.

The first step to take is call for a meeting of all your neighbors to find out if crime is a big enough issue to form a watch program. You can ask your local law enforcement agency to come out and give a talk on the reality of burglaries in your area and the need to be proactive about it. You will need to determine block captains and an effective system of communication through volunteers.

Anyone can volunteer for these positions. It does not matter if you own your home or rent. Participation by as many people as possible equates to a safer neighborhood, increased personal safety and a lower incidence of crime.

Pets are not allowed in shelters or Red Cross facilities so it’s a good idea to now in advance which hotels and motels will let them stay

As part of an emergency preparedness plan check with friends and family to see if they can care for your pets for a short period

Put together an emergency kits for your pets that includes food, a can opener, food and water dishes, toys, litter and a pan, veterinarian information, medical records, leashes, a first aid kit and medications

Get your pets outside as soon as possible if an emergency arises
Keep your pets secure in a vehicle or a carrier so they don’t get lost

You have to wonder why a celebrity like Paris Hilton could become the victim of a burglary. We can only guess that she would have been protected with a no holds barred home security system, so how did the guy do it? How did he get away with it?

The LAPD reported that a man wearing a hoodie and gloves forced entry into the young woman’s home right through the front door and looted her private bedroom. Obviously he was caught on tape by the home’s video surveillance camera. To the dismay of the Hollywood celeb, he made off with jewelry and other things valued at more than $2 million. Some of the items had very high sentimental meaning and are irreplaceable.

The heiress was of course devastated but as her mother reminded her, it was all really just “stuff” and her safety comes first. Hilton was not at home at the time of the incident and although she was badly shaken, she was glad the crook had not barged in on her.

He was caught on tape after all.

On February 23rd the culprit busted into Partridge’s abode and got away with over $43, 000 in fabulous designer clothing and jewelry. Later in August he made off with something like $128,000 in similar merchandise from the Hollywood Hills bungalow belonging to Lohan. What the heck? Was he on a shopping spree for free?

Lohan actually hinted in a Twitter message she know exactly what was going on. Because the usual electronics items that get lifted in a burglary were not touched she figured it was done by someone that knew her. It was Lohan’s surveillance camera that captured footage of Prugo and two female accomplices. The dude was arrested in September and released on $100,000 bail. He get up to 6 years in a state prison.
