Most burglars will not take the time to do this, but the point is they want to get inside your home making as little noise as possible. If you have not had your home security company install window sensors, then at least make sure you have motion sensors armed and ready to trigger the burglar alarm in case of unwanted intrusion.
- Place several strips of masking tape across the glass and tap gently with a hammer or heavy object. This will cut down on the sound of the glass shattering. Duck tape will work just as well.
- Put a blanket or towel against the window pane before striking it with a hammer. This will muffle the sound. Put something similar on the ground beneath the window to absorb the sounds of the glass falling.
- Sometimes tapping a nail into the glass pane in the corner of the window frame will help reduce the noise, but the blanket or tape ideas work better.
- If you have a glass cutter, cut a large “X” across the pane and tap the center of it. Still a bit noisy though.
